Swimmer's Motivational Time Standards are broken down by gender and age groups.

What are motivation time standards, and what does that mean for my swimmer?

USA Swimming sets national Motivational Time Standards to help swimmers track their progress and set goals. These standards are updated every four years and provide benchmarks for each age group and event.

Performance Levels and Tiers for motivational time cuts:

B & BB: Developing and beginning competitive proficiency.

A & AA: Strong, above-average age-group performance.

AAA & AAAA: Advanced and elite national-level age group performance.

The higher the cut time the more advanced meets your swimmer can attend, leading to high levels of competition.

Certain meets require certain cuts to attend. Keeping track of your swimmers time cuts, will help you and your swimmer learn what meets they can and cannot attend. Apps like Swimmetry can help you keep track of your swimmers times for each event they swim in a sanctioned meet.
